Christian daimyō of Bungo; the mission's greatest patron-lord

The lord of Bungo whose protection anchored the mission's first decades and whose baptism in 1578 crowned a twenty-year courtship. His defeat at Mimikawa that same year broke Ōtomo power — and taught the mission how fragile daimyō patronage could be.
